The Ranthambore Rapiers

Jai BOP…these 2 words mean a lot to me and I respect them wholeheartedly…BOP – Bulls on Parade for the uninitiated…its our Royal Enfield Motorcycling Club and we have completed 2 years of Riding Brotherhood…24 Months, 33 Members, 20 Rides, 12,660 kms. & unlimited memories…

As you know by now, BOP always indulges in grand style which often is on-the-road and this anniversary was no different, we planned a ride to the Ranthambore – A Tiger Sanctuary in Rajasthan some 400 kms. from Gurgaon and to keep the ride exclusive it was open to only the 33 BOP Members…finally 15 riders signed up but Rajiv Sir & Bantu had to drop out due to some Medical Emergencies…so we were finally a bunch of 13 Riders…hungry for some NH-8 Riding through the mystic land of Rajasthan with a hope of spotting a Tiger in the wild and have loads of raunchy fun on the way...

The Ranthambore Rapiers were:
1. Dips on his Black Electra
2. Sunny on his Red/Maroon/??? Standard also called The Highway Skorcher
3. Ashutosh on his Silver Electra
4. Jaggi on his Silver & Black 5S Electra
5. Zaheer on his Lightning 535
6. Ashok on his Red Electra
7. Chadha Paaji on his Black Standard
8. Rohit on his Maroon Electra
9. Pravin on his Marco Polo
10. Bhatia on his Black Thunderbird Twin Spark
11. Ajit on his Blue Thunderbird
12. Rishi on his Black Standard
13. Che on The Mighty One

The Meticulous Plan
I floated a mail for this ride way back in August so that all of us could plan our leave well in advance as I wanted the maximum of us to join this ride and make this the biggest BOP Ride ever. Hotel Options were carefully evaluated and eventually with Make My Trip’s help we booked Hotel Tiger Safari Resort in Ranthambore (Special Thanks to Sayani Gupta from MMT who helped us with the bookings). We chose the route plan courtesy www.ghumakkar.com.

The Grand Start
13 of us started the Anniversary Ride from the Leisure Valley Park at 5:30 AM…This is the place where BOP(then known as Gurgaon Cruisers) met for the first time way back in November 2007…it was heartening to see all of reach on time and after a photo session and some loud chit-chat we started the much-expected Ride.

The Breakfast Pit-Stop

We stopped our riding for some 90 odd kms at a place which was aptly chosen, ample parking space for the 13 bikes and a perfect setting for a formation photo opportunity!!! Paranthas & Curd were ordered in haste. The mood was upbeat and the weather amazingly beautiful, we had left the early morning November chill behind us and the Sun was trying its best to come out of its night-long sleep…but the biggest surprise was yet to come out…Chadha Paaji had been given the responsibility of managing the Ride-Finances and a non-descript paper came out of his pocket…but when it was visible to all the peals of laughter were heard in as far as Jaipur & Delhi & I actually fell down on the ground after seeing the paper…he had prepared an excel sheet for a perfect calculation based on a count of 14,15 & 16 riders but sadly we were 13 so his plan was hit badly but the brave analyst he is, he was never bogged down and was ready for more. Chadha Paaji is an old-school type, very cautious on the road & extremely meticulous in his approach, it’s no joke that he is the most respected amongst the 33 BOPians, we swear by his name and discuss his Bahaaduri Kartabs in all our rides…after the heavy breakfast and Chadha Paaji’s analytical bravery we started the next leg of our ride…

The Sad Mishap
Just 20 minutes in this leg, our BOP Comrade Rishi Singh Maurya met with an accident, he was riding at some 60-70 kmph and the truck-trailer infront of him braked suddenly and he banged into it’s rear head-on…it was a real bad accident, we were stopped by people who had just crossed the accident site and Dips & Jaggi reached there first, his condition was real bad, he was unconscious, in terrible pain, bleeding mouth and a badly-swollen head…a good-Samaritan rickshaw-driver emptied his passengers and took Rishi to the hospital with Dips accompanying him and Jaggi staying back at the site taking care of Rishi & Dips’ Bikes, we followed them to the hospital which was a very small Village Hospital in Shahpura, Rajasthan and the facilities there were not-too-great, he was given basic first-aid and was rushed to Jaipur’s SMS Hospital for further treatment. All this while Dips was with him. All of us were left stunned and really sad as this was the first such major accident in all our 20 rides till now.

We all gathered at a Highway Dhaba and decided our next move, and it was decided that me, Ashok, Ashutosh & Ajit would reach the hospital and the rest of us would follow later after taking care of the 2 bikes left behind and ensuring that they stay safe.

I reached the hospital which was some 75 kms away and went straight to the X-Ray Room and his reports were handed over to us…2 fractures, one in the jaw-bone and one in the collar bone and no other major injuries to any other body parts. To confirm the extent of his head injury he was taken for the CT scan where I met Dips and saw Rishi, in pain and completely out of his senses. We shifted him to the poly-trauma ward where further treatment was to take place. All this while in the commotion, Dips had informed his parents in Jodhpur but was unable to pick up any calls, so I talked to his parents, brothers & friends to comfort them and inform them about the extent of his injuries. His Father & Brother had started for Jaipur from Jodhpur by bus and were expected to reach only by midnight. He had 2 clots in his brain but nothing serious and no possibility of an operation and that was a major relief, as we knew the fractures would heal with time but a major head injury can be troublesome for the entire life.

One point which I must mention here, whatever the cynics might say about the sad condition of the Government Health Care system in India but the SMS Hospital disproves all such myths, Rishi was given all the treatment he needed in time, the hospital staff was very courteous & prompt and the facility very clean. I would be always grateful to the SMS Hospital for saving our friend’s life.

At 3 PM Rishi’s Jaipur-based friends came and we went down to meet the rest of the BOPians to figure out our plans, but one thing was very sure in our mind that the Ride had to go on. We had done all we could do and we were sure that if later Rishi got to know that the ride got cancelled he would have felt really bad, so when we met we had just one decision to make’ stay in Jaipur overnight or start for Ranthambore which was some 160 kms. away. Everybody was in consensus to ride to Ranthambore except for Bhatia & Chadha who didn’t want to ride in the night so there was a long convincing session which started and here a special mention goes to Sunny who was the silent assassin here, without speaking much he was able change their minds and we were finally off towards Ranthambore at 4 PM, some 10 hours into our ride already and still 160 kms. left.

42 kms of Madness
The first 60 kms were absolutely perfect, we crossed Jaipur through the IOC Fire Mishap site and saw thick-black smoke billowing out into the horizon and it was a crazy sight as all of us had read about in the news but seeing was an all-together different experience. I reached the Lalsot Crossing first and it was a 42 kms. long road, I had 8 bananas for my late lunch as I had skipped it as I was busy at the hospital and lunch was the last thing on my mind then…soon all of us gathered and started one of the toughest 42 kms of our ride, we were taking this route as one of Bhatia’s connections had given the information to us that the Jaipur-Dausa road was in a bad state and this was a totally incorrect piece of info…

Soon it got extremely dark and the road’s condition transformed from bad to extremely worse, and believe me we have been to the Ladakhs & the Lahauls of the world but this was even worse, the actual road was just 6 feet wide and we had 2-3 feet deep dry mud for company so each time a vehicle was coming in our way we had to move to the mud and keep our bikes balanced somehow, I was leading the pack and was riding at a brisk pace without stopping and all the time my eyes were transfixed on the road and my odo-meter as I was waiting for the 42 kms to pass…and the tractors approaching us made our task even more trickier as they had no headlights and I could notice them only when they were just 10 feet away from me…but as brave fighters we defeated the road-demons and reached the end of the tumultuous 42 kms as hardened riders who can manage any challenge thrown at us…and when I reached the Lalsot-Madhopur crossing I was surrounded by shocked villagers each wanting a piece of me & The Mighty One, they were shell-shocked to see a Motorcyclist riding all the way from Delhi through such torturous roads and I baked in the glory…had my bravery tales to share with them and also clicked pics to the sheer delight of the camera-shy villagers…though some of them were not that shy!!!

The Deserved Break
This successful challenge surely deserved a BBB Break and we didn’t disappoint us, after some crazy phone-calls and losing our way we finally reached a theka where some of us enjoyed chilled beer with Egg-Bhurji and discussed our individual tales of valor & craziness…

Sanity Returns
The next 60 kms were sheer riding pleasure as we were crossing the Mega Highway Road which connects Ambala to Nagpur/Jabalpur and believe me it was better than NH-8 & NH-1, the roads were clearly marked and had reflective blinkers guiding us all the way through the pitch-dark night. I switched off my headlight a number of times to enjoy the darkness and the sound of my Bike…just me & my bike for company…what a time it was…

The Shattered Dream
With some 25 kms left for Ranthambore, all of us gathered and decided to ride in a formation till the end of the ride after Ajit literally begged us to do so but as you know by now BOP proposes and Dips disposes…all such dreams were shattered to pieces when suddenly I saw Dips overtaking me from the right at 90 kmph and all hell broke lose…I decided to shun the sanity of formation riding and followed Dips and soon overtook him…I was followed by Zaheer, Ashok & Sunny who did the same…it was a crazy riding adventure and I don’t blame Dips even one bit…the magic of the smooth tarmac took us over and it was sweetened by the fact that the last 40 odd kms were nothing but misery!!!

The Dream is achieved
See you might call us a crazy bunch of riders but when it comes to companionship we can give everybody a tough fight…finally to prove everybody wrong me, Dips & Sunny rode the last 3 kms in perfect formation and reached our resort…don’t underestimate us by looking at the distance but just think of the sheer coordination prowess we pulled out from our reserves to achieve this feat…after all it had been 16 hours since we had hit the road and had literally no reserves left in our body to call upon!!!

The Attack

We finally reached our destination at 10 PM and were mentally & physically exhausted till the brim and each one of us had only two things in our mind…a good meal & a long sleep…all of us got freshened up and reached the restaurant where food had been served for 12 famished riders, it was an attack of sorts with nobody talking to each other and just attacking the food with focused-determination, even Beer & Rum was out of our mind for that brief period…everything served was over in 20 minutes and burping sounds were heard even by the sleeping tigers…we were duly warned by the Hotel Staff as the legend says whenever a Tiger hears a Human Burp it comes to the city for the same kind of meal…and its not a joke…refer to google for more information on this!!!

The Night Bakchodi Session

After the tumultuous day we wanted some Alcohol Therapy badly but only few of us were mad enough to stay awake that late; Me, Jaggi, Sunny, Dips & Pravin were the only mad ones for this late session…and we discussed what-not; maids, rides, mishaps and our patented BOP Bakchodi…finally at 1:30 AM in the night we called it a day…a really long day filled with tragedy, pathetic roads, stories of valor & riding brotherhood…

Special Mention to Chadha & Bhatia for changing their decision and agreeing to ride in the night as only due to them we could reach Ranthambore on the first day…I am sure it was a great riding experience for them as well and would make them even better riders…

Pool is Fun
The new day started for me with a phone call from Ajit at 8 AM and I was up & away…had my FREE breakfast of Coffee & Paranthas…nothing great but okay enough to satisfy my empty tummy…soon the rest of the BOPians also came out gingerly and the plan for the rest of the day was charted out…amidst all this planning the Swimming Pool was beckoning us and we didn’t dare to disappoint…I was the first one to test the chilled waters and had a ball…see when I get into the water I get into a different zone all-together and this inspite of the fact that I don’t know how to swim!!! I start singing the weirdest of the songs, keep jumping & howling and yes never ever miss to enjoy chilled beer while enjoying the water…and this time was no different…had Kingfisher, Sunny, Dips & Zaheer for company and they faced the agony of my music as well!!!

Another Day…another Fort…
The BOP connection with forts is a very old one…as far as November 2007 when BOP went for it’s first meet to The Neemrana Fort and we have followed it up with visits to numerous forts; Bhangarh, Tughlaqabad, Rakhigarhi & Kurukshetra and I am sure there are many more to come in our expected illustrious future…this time we visited the Ranthambore Fort and had an enjoyable time…I really enjoy exploring India’s rich heritage which lies in the forts, I get really humble when observing the kind of technical prowess which existed in our country but we have really lost our way since then as if we would have utilized our acumen India would have been much more developed…

The Action of the day was reserved for the last part…the moment the 12 bulls started to roar the innumerable Langurs started to act like confused zombies, itw as a hectic sight with every Langur scouting for cover in the trees, the funniest & scariest sight was when 2 Langurs fell on the road infront of our bikes and we had to brake instantly to avoid any further damage to the simians…

We clicked the customary BOP Group Pic at the Entry Point of the Ranthambore National Park and it was the biggest group pic of BOP till date, really made me feel proud, we have come a long way together in the last 2 years…so many new members who have joined us and we have seen the highs & lows together for close to 13,000 kms on the road…

The Hurried Lunch
We had a really quick lunch at a recently opened Restaurant aptly named “Jungle Bytes”, the lawn of the restaurant was perfectly manicured, great service to boot and delicious food which sweetened our experience. And we planned to return in the night for a relaxed dinner…

Spot the Tiger
We reached our Resort in time to start our Jungle Safari on a Canter at 2 PM, with anxious anticipation in our minds as all of us badly wanted to spot a tiger in the wild, the safari started with the normal routine; loads of deer species’ spotting and the crescendo was reached when we saw a huge crocodile enjoying a swim in the sunny day and a baby crocodile sun-bathing on the lake-side, it surely looked a rubber specimen but when our canter started with a loud thud it went into the water quite rapidly and it was proved that it was a real one!!! soon we got bored of seeing the innumerable spotted deers & Sambhar Deers…the wait was getting palpable for the royal beast- The Tiger!!!

Our Luck turned on it’s back very soon, in a distance we saw 5-6 jeeps parked and everybody had their eyes transfixed at one same spot and we know all the commotion was for something majestic, we reached the spot and it took us atleast 5-7 minutes to finally spot the Tiger resting in the bushes well camouflaged by the tall bushes in the foreground. It was not the best spotting we were hoping for but nonetheless it was the first time 11 of us were seeing a tiger in the wild…the exception was Bhatia who had been really lucky and had enjoyed clear sightings in the past…we left after loads of pics and bucket-full of memories and I made a promise to myself that I would be back pretty soon to enjoy a much more clear sighting.

The Last Hoorah
The Night was reserved for another of our legendary BBB Sessions laced with 2 brands of Rum…Hercules (courtesy Dips) & Raffles (courtesy Ajit) and how can we forget the Korean Liquer brought by Bhatia; I took the safe route though and had my favourite Kingfisher!!!
After the long fun-filled session we left for the Jungle Bytes Restaurant for the dinner and there was a surprise in store for me, we met the owner of that place and just started to chit-chat and in between our conversations he mentioned EOiD – Eating Out in Delhi, the Foodie Group I am a part of (Read more at www.eoid.org) and he was simply delighted to meet somebody from the group by which he had been inspired a lot, it was a pleasant surprise for me and this ensured that BOP got special attention after this, the garden was laid out and was specially set-up for the alcohol-friendly BOPians…quite a luxury!!!
The Dinner was quite enjoyable and an icing on the cake for our Ranthambore Stay.
We reached the hotel where the sane ones left to sleep and the insane ones sat down for another Bakchodi Session, special mention here goes to Jaggi who was extremely passionate in describing the horror scenes from the Saw Movie Series and it was quite a revelation for me as I have not watched either of them till date… we finally slept at 1 AM and had to wake up at 5 AM to start our return ride at 6 AM. Sadly I could not sleep properly and kept moving in the bed till 3 AM when finally I could manage some sleep.

Return to Basics
Me & Dips started early as we had planned to visit Rishi at SMS Hospital in Jaipur and the rest of us were to take a different route and reach Gurgaon. The first 90 kms of the ride was perfectly described as Riding Bliss, what an amazing road it was, and the best part was spotting Road Sign Boards of Delhi & Ambala on the way, Delhi was not as far as we thought!!! And for a change Dips was my pillion as his bike was parked at a Dhaba near the accident site and after visiting Rishi we had to pick up his bike.

We made our first pit-stop for some much-needed tea and even more deservedly an open-dumping opportunity for me and I didn’t let it pass by and went straight to the bushes to relieve myself!!!

We reached Jaipur well in time after passing Dausa at 11 AM and went straight to the SMS Hospital and met Rishi and were quite relieved to see Rishi who had recovered quite a lot, no pain whatsoever and his body holding up amazingly well, he is quite a mentally strong guy as an accident like the one he faced takes much more time to get over. We spent an hour with him and spoke to him about our ride, I also talked to one of my friends working in the HR Team at Hewitt and informed him about Rishi’s accident so that his managers could be informed.

We left the hospital at 12 Noon and after that just kept looking for a Dhaba but it was all futile, we passed the Heritage City and could not find one, finally struck gold when we reached NH-8, it was a great relief for me as I had just 4 bananas and one cup of Tea since I woke up at 5 in the morning.

After the much deserved Lunch we headed straight towards the Dhaba where Dips’ bike was parked and when we reached Dips’ excitement & relief was quite visible, I have never seen him that emotional, the Rendezvous was straight out of a dream sequence. We offered Money as a gift to the Dhaba Owner for keeping the Bike safe for 2 nights but he flatly refused just proving the much-known fact about the Rajasthani Hospitality to us, India surely is the best place to be in where you can find such stories of amazing hospitality in every nook & corner …

After this emotional scene we donated 100 Bucks at a nearby temple paying our obeisance to the almighty for saving Rishi and also keeping Dips’ Bike safe…

And we could not stop ourselves from stopping at the next Theka on the highway and enjoy a chilled beer and celebrate the occasion…and not any other ber, the beer was named BULLDOZER!!! and we were duly advised by the Theka owner that anyone who has this beer becomes a Bulldozer…what an advice it was…

We had come over the major accident & bad roads and came out victorious after the Anniversary Ride and this occasion surely deserved a beer and I am sure all of you would agree 100%!!!

We received an SMS from Bhatia that Pravin’s bike had a breakdown and they would all meet us at Dharuhera to enjoy a meal together…We reached Dharuhera and enjoyed a hot meal and were back with the rest of the BOPians. Got to know that Pravin’s bike was in a really bad shape and had to be transported in a bigger vehicle to Gurgaon.

Record-Break
We reached Gurgaon at sharp 6 PM and it was surely a record of sorts as it was the first time in our 20 rides that we had reached back so early and once again this momentous record-breaking feat shouted for chilled beer!!! Me, Sunny & Dips stopped at a Gurgaon Theka and enjoyed chilled beer…

What a ride it was, we had our fair share of highs & lows but in the end came out victorious and celebrated our anniversary in grand style…with a promise that our riding would only get bigger & better till the next anniversary in 2010!!! The next ride has been already planned and it would be our longest till date…a 1400 kms ride to Khajuraho…

Latest Status of Rishi’s Health:
Rishi has coped up pretty well and his 2 fractures are healing quite properly, his plastic surgery for the reconstruction of his face was successful and he has been discharged from the hospital, he would be spending the next 3 weeks recuperating at his home in Jodhpur.
We all pray for his early recovery and hope to see him soon preferably for a ride together!!! that would be the perfec t ending to the tragic accident…Amen to that…

Che would be back on the road again…

Till then ride safe & have safe sex…

Hasta la Victoria Siempre…

The Redstone Rockets

Bulls on Parade is getting bigger & better with each new ride...and this ride was no different, we were contacted by Zice Holidays-an organization providing Experiential Products and Services in Travel, Adventure and Learning(get more information at www.ziceholidays.com), they wanted to arrange a Biking Expedition to their Camp Site in Uttarakhand named Camp Redstone(www.campredstone.in) in cooperation with BOP. The site which is some 18 kms. from Dehradun provides a nature-laden experience filled with Adventure Sports, River-Side fun, camping Masti and some time to relax...we jumped at this opportunity for a different sort of ride and started to invite nominations from BOPians...sadly only 3 of us were ready and then 4 of our non-BOP rider friends also joined in...The dates were also quite apt for a weekend ride...2-3-4 October being a long weekend...

The Redstone Rockets were:

• Dips on his Black Electra
• Tsering on his Red Electra
• Adit on his Black Pulsar 180
• Vihans on his Orange FZ-16
• BK on his Red Karizma
• Dhruv on his Silver Pulsar 220
• Che on The Mighty One

Day 1 - Friday - 2nd October 2009 (Gurgaon – Delhi – Meerut- Dehradun – Camp Redstone)

The day started on a bad note, I got an SMS from Dips that his bike had a flat tyre and he would not be able to join us at 5 AM and would catch-up after getting the repair done...Vihans stayed overnight at my home and both of us reached the rendezvous point of Nalli’s at South-Extn. Where the other riders were to meet us...then the first silly incident of the ride...Tsering read Nalli’s as Naali(Drain) and was waiting for us at some Naali in the market...I spent a good amount of time explaining him the nitty-gritties of the Queen’s Language and finally he got me and came to Nalli’s...good riddance in the end...so finally after the English Language classes we started the ride at 5:15 AM...

It being a long weekend the roads were already starting to cramp up with cars zooming past us...this was the first time I had seen so much traffic on this route at this early part of the day...we knew we were up against some serious overtaking manoeuvres for the rest of the ride...

We went past the manic Meerut & Modinagar Roads in relatively less roads and kept tugging along...all this while Dips was in constant touch with me through SMS and letting me know about his whereabouts...we stooped for some Tea and Sutta at a highway Dhaba past Meerut...

Post this break it was all about bad roads, petrol fumes and ugly traffic...we kept countering all of them and went past them as true warriors not allowing either of them to stop our charge...and finally took refuge in a Dhaba for some much needed rest after almost 2 hours of crazy riding...in between this Tsering stopped by to help some of his rider buddies as one of their bikes had stalled...they were off to Harsil...another destination where I wanna ride to one day...

All of us decided that we would wait for Dips at this Dhaba only and ride to our destination together...as it was 2nd October and Gandhi Jayanti, we knew that it being a Dry Day we won’t get any open thekas so I was carrying 12 big cans of Kingfisher...and what better way to while away time...open the cans and let the good times begin!!! Vihans being the Jugaadu person he is also arranged for some ice and the cans started to chill...amidst this chill factor, he also struck a conversation with 2 Policemen who were also biding away their time...they had a free-wheeling conversation about Free Sex, Bangkok and what not...indeed quite an interesting conversation it was...and anyway we never shy away from any Bakchodi opportunity and this time also we duly took part!!! Soon the beer cans were opened and the bakchodi started to free-flow...Dips finally came at 11 Am amidst some loud cheers and some awe-struck people...he was duly welcomed with a chilled beer can and he was more than thrilled at this grand welcome...Tsering found a novel way of sleeping using his bag & a chair...I must say he must get this style patented and he would make millions out of it...how to sleep with minimal resources with maximum comfort...he is one crazy rider indeed...

After the long long break it was all about reaching Camp Redstone and we barely stopped except for some piss breaks...the mountain ride finally started but it was still very hot & humid...we reached our destination at 3 PM in grand Bikers Style...Dips brought his Bandero out and I ripped my Goldstar to make our presence felt...surely it was frightening for other tourists who had thought this would be their peaceful & relaxed stay at the Camp but all their plans vanished in no time...

The campsite was beautiful...nestled in the foothills with lush greenery and had some cosy tents...we wasted no time & decided to head straight towards the man-made lake to have some watery Bakchodi...another fun session started and we had a great time...

We had lunch after this...normal tourists would rest after a long ride & lunch but by now you very well know us...we are a class-apart...we went to play Volleyball after all this...and I was nostalgic...I was playing Volleyball after 6 years and the last time I played I had a fracture in my right ankle but I kept the past behind and had a great time playing volleyball after all these years...I played my heart-out smashing & falling down to pick the ball!!! the noteworthy part of the game was BK’s involvement...the maximum he moved to pick the ball was 3 inches and that also demanded a lot of effort from him...he surely knows how to conserve energy...quite a sensible player he is!!!

After the sweaty game Tsering used the Air-Gun like a true marksman...he hit the target like a professional...everybody was awestruck at his brilliance and to celebrate his playmanship we went for another water-session...this time with beers and loads of Bakchodi in our mind!!! We came out fresh as daisies and then after changing our attires went towards the lounge area where we had hot tea & coffee...and also some relaxed moments after the hectic & playful day...but sports was not out of our mind...we then played Carrom...another activity which riders rarely indulge in during a ride...this ride was going totally the way we had thought it to be...totally different from the way our other rides go!!!

Another long Bakchodi session followed after the sporty adventures and Tsering played the good-old Tea-Maker for the young kids around, he even taught them some magic tricks and all of them were thrilled to bits...to save the fellow tourists of the pains of our loud Bakchodi we went towards the Amphitheatre and this was the legendary place where Dips tried his best to become a photographer and tried to click pics at all possible angles but very tragically his endeavour was a big failure though I give him full points for trying...we then went to the riverside with our stock of Beer & Rum and had an amazing time...the gusty river Tsong flowing beside us and the moonlit sky above us, with Rum, Beer & friends we couldn’t have asked for more from Life...Bakchodi also flowed like the river, sadly we had to leave for the waiting dinner and more importantly our stock got over, we had our dinner and then lounged around for a bit before calling it a day...the first time in a BOP ride all of us were perched on our beds by 11 PM.

Day 2 - Saturday – 3rd October 2009 (A relaxed day at Camp Redstone)

The day started with shock & awe for all of us...another of Tsering’s Bahaaduri Kartab...we were shocked to see him sleeping casually out in the open with a mattress & quilt with no trouble whatsoever...when he woke up he told us that he found no place to sleep in the tents so he went to one of the tents where a couple was cosily sleeping on one bed and he pounced that opportunity and pulled the mattress and came out in the open and slept without any fuss whatsoever...what a man...so adjusting, I am sure his wife would be a very lucky wife even though he is a man full of surprises but still an amazing rider...

All of us gingerly came out of our tents and went straight for breakfast where some hot Poor-Chhole were waiting for us…we gorged them and then were off to the Bike Trek to some cave…yes we trek also using our machines!!! So much for conservation of human energy…me & Vihans didn’t go for the trek and went back to our tents for a short nap…we went a bit further with the conservation thingy!!!

All of us gathered then at 11:30 for our next activity for the day…the river-crossing trek and the Rappelling session…river-crossing was fun with walking on the slippery stones and the steady flow making it a bit tricky…I gathered all my inner strength for the rappelling adventure but when my turn came, I got shit scared from the height and aborted my maiden attempt!!! This was my second aborted try…I did the same thing way back in 2004 when I went for an adventure trip to Dhauj in Haryana…maybe…I would be third time lucky…

After my failure and my buddies' successful rappelling attempts it was all about the river for us, we again got into the chilled waters for another aquatic fun session…we finally left the waters for our empty tummies and another gorging session…see our priorities are pretty much in place…nothing comes between us & the food!!! Hmmm well Beer comes at times…but still beer also has some medicinal properties which only BOP knows and we keep experimenting with them…

We rested for a bit after the heavy lunch and post that got pulled away to our favourite spot of the camp-site…the lake or pool whatever one can call that…and God also blessed us then…it started to rain heavily and our water-fun became 10 times better…we had a ball…soon beers were out and it was a dream sequence after that…I got into the mood and started to blurt out some fun songs at the top of my voice…had a ball…came out of the water finally when it started to get really chilly…

We rested in the common seating area…but then we tend to get a bit loud and it was getting uncomfortable with the families around…so off we went to the river side for another BBB Session under the moon-light…the river was splashing against the rocks and was producing a melodious symphony…it was a scene straight out of a dream sequence…beer, friends, river, moon-lit sky and ample Bakchodi to boot!!!
We came to the camp site for the dinner but it was to take some more time and to bide our time went towards the amphitheatre area for another BBB Session where me & Vihans danced our heart out to some raunchy songs…a cheap & vulgar show…a kid came towards us and then watched in utter shock when I was dancing…saw into my eyes and then ran away…I am sure he must have gone straight to his mother and would have told her “Some aliens are around, better be careful!!!”

We had our dinner and called it a day at 10 PM…had an amazing day and were bust throughout but the watery fun kept us relaxed through the day…and it was strange for us as rarely we sleep by 10 PM during any of our rides…but at the camp-site there was nothing much to do when the night struck so it was better to sleep early considering we had to start for Delhi pretty early…

Day 3 - Sunday – 4th October 2009 (Camp Redstone – Dehradun – Saharanpur - Panipat – Delhi - Gurgaon)

We woke up at 8 AM and after having our breakfast and the customary snaps session started from the camp at 10:30 AM, all of us had decided that we would first go to Mussoorie and then go towards Delhi as it was some 50 odd kms away…and it was one of the worst decision I ever made…we mis-calculated the total time of the return ride and then the rains made matters worse for us…the moment we reached the Mall at Mussoorie and it started to rain cats 7 dogs and we had to take refuge under a Tea-Shop shed…had some hot & piping tea with Maggi…Vihans, BK & Adit bought rain-coats…a good decision as the rain was in no mood to wither away…after waiting for an eternity for the rain to stop which never happened we all decided to start again in the rain only…and it was heavy indeed…

In 2009, Rains have never left me…It has rained during Bike Rides to Mcleodganj, Binsar, Bhangarh & Redstone and to other trips to Wellington, Mt. Abu & Bharuch…so what India was hit by a drought this year, no such sorrows for me atleast!!!
We had to finally stop once we hit Dehradun as the rain was painfully heavy and we just could not ride further…we took refuge under a tin-shed and waited for another 35-40 minutes…but the rain didn’t stop…we rode then in some light rain for the next 50 odd kms…the rain finally stopped near the UP-UK Border…and it was a huge relief…
We were taking a different route while going back via Saharanpur and then NH-1 to avoid the scary roads of Meerut & Modinagar…they surely are the worst roads while coming back to Delhi and I have faced it twice during my bike rides…but then Saharanpur was a big pain…there was some religious procession passing the city and we were stuck for 40 odd minutes…but me & Vihans didn’t let it overcome us and danced on the Dhol Beats to the utter surprise of the bystanders!!!

We took an amazing route after the Saharanpur fiasco…through the UP Villages…under the moon-lit sky and following one-another…it was pure riding bliss…and then Vihans stopped…don’t worry…not a mishap this time…but at the most apt location…a Theka!!! We enjoyed chilled beer at the Village Theka with another longish Bak session…
We hit the NH-1 finally after the rains, beers & village roads and it was fun riding on the smooth & wide NH-1 Road which now we call it our own after riding through it so many times…

And then the first & only mishap of the ride…just before the Panipat Flyover I hit a cycle which just sprung up from nowhere and with me riding at 100 kmph I had no time to react and sway away…and I banged straight into the cycle…luckily there was nobody riding on it and a man was just pushing it to the road from the behind… it was really a frightful bang but NHAI saved me!!! They are widening NH-1 and I flew straight towards the mud pit and due to the muddy base I just thudded staright into the mud and had no major injuries, both to me or the bike and when I got up the cycle-guy had vanished into thin air, I am sure he knew once I get up I would thrash the shit out of him!!!

I gathered my senses & thoughts and checked my body before starting again…thanked God…once again he saved me from major injuries…I am sure some good deeds of mine saved me this time otherwise I was gone for all money…there was severe pain in my right toe and I was unable to change the gears so I rode till Gurgaon in the 4th Gear only…it was surely tough as I rode for some 170 kms like that!!! Kept thanking God during these 170 kms for saving me…

Finally reached home at 2 AM…bruised, exhausted & battered but not out…an X-Ray in the evening confirmed a fracture in my right toe…took a rest from riding for some 2 weeks and now am yearning to get back on the road…with these lines for some inspiration !!!

The BOP Anniversary Ride to Ranthambore is just 3 days away…and BOP is all geared up for that…would be the biggest ride till date…16 riders confirmed!!!

What a Day...

Rarely a day comes when the day is so hectic that you rarely get any breathing space, you are awake for 18 hours in the day, driving for some 140 kms through the day, riding for some 60 kms., changing your clothes thrice in a single day, eat 3 heavy meals & do some good-old head-banging and on the top of all this, you get this busy on a Sunday which in normal people’s lives is a day to relax & get rejuvenated for the week ahead but in my life normalcy gets thrown out of the window the way an employee’s idea is thrown out by the all-mighty supervisor…

And this day was 25th October 2009 which was action-packed & filled till the brim and I had a ball…right from 6 AM when I woke up…and the action began…

7 AM – Leisure Valley Park, Gurgaon – Bulls on Parade (BOP) Meet

Woke up at 6 AM, got freshened up, had a light breakfast of Bread-Jam & Mango Juice and headed straight for LVP where my Motorcycling buddies were to meet for our BOP Rendezvous towards The Tughlaqabad Fort…this is one place which we enjoy going to repeatedly without getting bored and we indulge in some level-headed Bakchodi & a beer session to boot and this time it was no-different…I had a minor fight with a biker near Vasant Kunj and gave him a mouthful and when he tried to be aggressive, I just showed him a sight of the other 10 motorcycles which were behind me, he got shit-scared after taking a look at that ultra-masculine sight of 10 bulls he just changed his way and took a U-Turn and ran away!!! We reached the fort and saw a Kulche-Matar vendor passing-by, he was frantically stopped as if all of us had just landed after spending an year in a torture session in Somalia, in minutes 15 plates were gorged…with our tummies full we entered the fort and took refuge at a new place where we started the BBB Session, soon Vihans, Ajit & Gyan joined us and we moved to our regular relaxation place within the fort where we had another session…in the end 15 motorcyclists attended the meet and we had 2 new-comers as well…I finally met Tarun Garcha from Road Survivors with whom I had interacted a lot online and even saw him at RM-09…

1:30 PM – Yadu Greens Banquet, GT Karnal Road – My friend’s Wedding

I reached my home at 11 AM; took a shower and changed into my formals from my Motorcycling gear of a Che Jacket & Camo-style cargos…I went to Arunima’s home and picked her up before starting the long journey of 70 odd kms to the Wedding Venue which felt some light-years away as ages have gone by since I have drove my car for so long…see I can ride my Motorcycle for 550 kms a day but when it comes to driving I am hate them the way Dada hated bouncers coming his way…we reached the venue after 1.5 long hours of a grueling driving session… it took us through 2 states and 68 kms(to be precise)…we ate our heart out at the marriage…Aloo-Tikki, Golgappe, Pao Bhaji & Besan ke Chille in the snakes variety and then Kadhi Pakoda, Pindi Chane, Stuffed Nan, Dal Makhani and Kulfi in the Main-Course variety…just to add some gory details I also dumped in the break between my meal & desserts…a satisfying dump and got me ready for the heavy-duty Kulfi session which was about to start!!!

4 PM – Pragati Maidan – The Great Indian Rock (GIR)

We left the marriage venue after Arunima had changed into her casuals in the banquet hall wash-room and invited the shocked-looks of quite a number pf Punju aunties who were shell-shocked to see a Sportswoman emerging out of a Marriage Venue…but she being the rockstar she is, she gave them all a big fuck and moved on…we reached Pragati Maidan sharp at 4 PM where we were to met Dips & Pravin who were coming on their SUV…we also saw some high-quality babes around us as it was also the 1st day of the Wills Fashion Week and the incoming crowds could be easily demarcated by their attires…the FW invitees were all decked up in their Designer Clothes with Make-Up plotted on their face quite carefully & at times over-the-top…Rakhi Sawant style and the GIR attendees were in their black Rock-Bands tees and long hair(only in few cases, in my case it is all about short hair to due to the sad state of affairs at the top of my body).

I changed into my Rock-Show gear in the car itself…wore my new Che & RATM Tee which I bought from Clydes – Palika Baazaar…

I entered the venue all excited as this was the first time I was attending a major Rock Show, yes I have attended some short-jigs in the past but nothing as big as GIR…its an annual event which is set-up by RSJ and is held in Mumbai, Bengalooru, Pune & New Delhi where bands of India & abroad play in front of some mad-mad crowds…and this time I was one amongst them though from the sober variety…as I was away from the front crowds all the time…

GIR started with a performance by a Aizawl band called Boomarang…they were not very loud types, I liked their music but sadly the crowd had not gathered up and their performance was actually wasted…I really felt bad for them as they had come all the way from Mizoram to perform…this act was followed up by another dull performance by “Another Vertigo Rush”…but then the Big Daddy of them all came…BHAYAANAK MAUT, yes that I the name of this killer band…and when literally translated into English, the band name means TERRIBLE DEATH!!! Wow what an amazing name…puts to shame all Brand Managers who take back lakhs of rupees to their homes and give the shittiest of the names to products…

To describe them in one-word, this band is CRAZY…you can’t understand a single word of their lyrics but still you just love the energy flowing all over the place…I had never ever heard this kind of music but still I loved it to bits…what fuckin amazing scenes…people were engaged in Mosh…for the uninitiated it is basically some Rock Music enthusiast(read Fanatics) who indulge in a crazy game of pushing & shoving each other and get fun out of it…I witnessed it for the first time and was shit scared about my Motorcycling Comrade Dips who was right there in the middle of the bloodshed scene…but the true fighter he is, he never ever flinched and kept asking for more…what a spirit this guy has got…and it is wrt everything…Biking, Trekking, Travelling, Head-Banging & Moshing…hats off to you Dips Bhai…and I am sure there are many more facets to him which I am yet to reveal!!!

After this explosion of sorts, one sad band followed…named Indigo Children whose lead-vocalist sounded more like a lullaby singer…with due respect…I am sure there were some people who loved them but I beg to differ…
The fun was not yet over…the next lined-up band was named Scribe…another killer performance followed and their lead-vocalist involved the crowd amazingly well…once again I learnt another form of Rock Music Fanaticism…Wind-Mill Head-Banging…where some guys with their long hair moved their head like a wind-mill and it was one crazy sight…I loved their performance and Dips once again went to the Mosh Area…and when I asked him “Doesn’t it pain”…pat came the reply “Yes, it does but I enjoy this pain!!!”…I kept quiet after that…

The best part about these performances was the energy which flowed and the amazingl vocals of lead-vocalists...they were literally grwoling and it still came out as melodious...plus I am sure if the total energy of the Bands & the fans were collected I am sure the NHAI's pending projects can be completed in no time. I really feel sad that having been born & brought up in Delhi and I haven't even attended a single edition of GIR...Dips was the one who told me about GIR a week back but I am not ashamed as I had a different kind of upbringing and till 2001 music just meant Kishore Kumar, Jagjit Singh & Punjabi for me...I thank BOP & GIM for my musical renaissance...infact Dips has educated me so much about Rock Music that I would be always indebted to him for the free training he has imparted to me...he is & would always remain the true master of Rock-Music for me...

The final act was by an American Band called Intronaut…another decent performance and their lead-guitarist was amazingly talented, he could also play some real kick-ass drums…but not upto the levels of Bhayaanak Maut & Scribe...

We didn’t watch their entire performance as we wanted to avoid the parking-area rush and also we were literally starving…

10:30 PM – Old Delhi – Food Fiesta

We reached Old Delhi amidst a Wedding Procession where the kids were dancing as if there was no tomorrow…I enjoy such sights as when I was kid, me & my brother always used to dance in our balcony whenever there was a marriage procession and I really miss those gay-abandon days and this time also I gave a small jig amidst the Dhol-Beats…

We went to our favourite shop called Chicken Point where he serves a psychedelic varity of Grilled Butter Chicken with fresh Roomali Rotis and the taste is HEAVENLY…period…nothing more to describe the taste further…the 5 of us gorged 30 rotis amongst us in no time and the total bill was just 260 bucks…I mean what the fuck guys…the quality of food is better than the 5-Stars worth their salt out there and the costing is highway Dhaba types…Long Live Chicken Point!!!

We enjoyed Shaahi-Tukda & Phirni for deserts which were followed by Pan to end the glorious day…

A special mention for our dearest Vihans Bhai...inspite of a very late Saturday night he came for the BOP meet and also for the GIR with his friends, he even accompanied us to Old Delhi and his day wasn't over yet...he went to Janpath for a Pizza Party with his friends after that...his spirit is one which I salute everytime...he is a true team-player and is always willing to go that extra step for his friends...

I finally reached my home at 12:30 AM…tired & exhausted but not out yet…what a day it was…phew…I am sure all of you would agree with me…Great Music, Good Food, Mighty Bullets, Friend’s Wedding & Great Friends…what else I can ask for…well nothing…

I pray to God that he grants me more such momentous days and I give full justice to the time I get…

Bulls on Parade @ Offisial Atyachaar

First things First…Bulls on Parade (BOP) is privileged to have the Founder of www.makemytrip.com(MMT) on its rolls…the man in question is Sachin Bhatia aka Bhatia Ji…though he hasn’t rode with us together the way we wish but he is an integral part of our club and soon we would be riding together for the BOP’s Anniversary Ride to Ranthambore in November 2009…

MMT recently launched a new project named www.offisialatyachaar.com(OA) which is aimed at working professional who want to break the monotony of the Corporate Life but rarely find the means to do so…and this site provides them with opportunities to explore the world out there and get out of the drudgeries of the office life…its an amazing concept and I am sure in time to come it would be one of the most successful sites of our times as so many of us want to break the shackles but lack the will & know-how and this site would provide that information…so go and browse the website and I am sure many of you would be soon exploring the hidden side of yourself which is hiding somewhere inside you and trying it’s best to come out and explore the horizons…after all there is much more than working for 12 hours a day!!!

All of you must be wondering why the fuck this guy is heaping praises on MMT & OA and not writing a damn thing about Biking & BOP…hold your horses folks…the real fun is yet to begin…and believe me once it starts you would be left yearning for more…

BOP was invited by the Project Team of OA to be part of their launch event and present about our club, it’s history and our rides…we were damn fuckin excited as this was the first time we had got such opportunity…me & Dips prepared a presentation about BOP with the creative inputs of Sunny Bhai who was as always a great help…obviously we had to treat him with free beer for him to come out oozing with his creative juices…

And then on the D-Day(18-Sep-09), almost the entire BOP came for the event at Epicentre, Gurgaon…bullets were shining and it was a spectacle which I would never forget…almost everybody in the official club tees & bulls shining…we were on a high…and ready to get drenched in real BBB masti…

The event was managed by LIVE EVENTS and I must say they did a shabby job…no planning whatsoever…timelines were not followed and arrangements were in a mess…we never expected this and were ready for some rude shocks…first of them being that no preparations were made for us to get 8 of our bikes to the event…we had some 25-30 stairs to manage and no ramps were made…they took eternity to come up with ideas but each of them failed…finally we had to come up with them and somehow we managed to bring the bikes downstairs into the main atrium of Epicentre…was a herculean effort but by now you know BOP can do anything and this time it was no different…the next fuck-up being we were told rudely not to start our engines and ride our bikes into the auditorium but roll them over manually and I was not ready for it…and I made it very clear to the event organizers…The Mighty One is not the one to be rolled over…it rolls people over and not the other way round…I had a heated argument with one of the Live Events organizers and fucked his happiness…I decided not to get the bike inside and keep it parked outside only…rest of BOPians tried in vain to convince me but being the stubborn asshole I am, I never budged from my stance…some of you might call this childish but that’s the way it is!!!

But one thing was very clear…it never crossed my mind that I would boycott the event…primarily due to two reasons…one, BOP comes first for me…come what may and it was the matter of our image and this was the first such opportunity for us to tell the world out there about our identity and secondly being that Bhatia Ji was directly involved and I respect him a lot so boycott was not an option…

Finally we made an entry in the auditorium and Bhatia Ji got us free coupons for Beer…seconds later we were found at the beer counter and gulping away Kingfisher!!! Yes all of us…

After an endless delay the event finally started with RJ Anirudha from Radio Mirchi blabbering and announcing the nitty-gritty of the event…

The first performance was by a Rock Band called Rustic Strings…and the first song they played was “Killing in the Name of” by Rage against the Machine and all of us started the head-banging session…pure coincidence considering our club name is inspired from a song by RATM only!!! We called it divine intervention!!! They played some classic Rock Numbers and we had a ball…

Post that “Late Hours Natak Mandli”, a amateur-theatre group presented a play which was great fun as well…the audience was supposed to throw rubber stress buster-balls at them and you can imagine what fun it would have been for us!!! We became handball players of the best quality and bombarded them like there was no tomorrow!!!

Manisha---wife of our dear BOPian Rishi Gupta also won a prize was shouting Atyachaar loudest amongst all the females present at the event…hats off to her spirit…

Post that there was an innovative event…it was called “Offisial Outburts”…selected people were to break a real office with workstations, printers, chairs & computers with baseball bats and get the frustration out of their system…it was crazy fun and we had a ball witnessing the breakage…sheer nonsense…but awesome creativity…

All this while we were continuously chanting our war cry JAI BOP like crazy…we had simply taken over the event and it seemed more of a BOP event than an OA event…and it was great fun…at the drop of a hat all of us chanted JAI BOP at the top of our voices…RJ Anirudha was simply outclassed and finally he gave in…

Just before our presentation was to start he handed over the microphone to me and said…”All yours”…quite apt as he knew once we get on the stage nothing else would be heard!!! I was completely sloshed after gulping down I don’t know how many beers and was trying my best to get back to my senses so that the presentation went off as planned…

But I made a huge blunder…we had planned that Dips & me would present together but under the influence of Beer I forgot that and started to present all on my own…Sorry Dips Bhai…it was never intentional…I just went with the flow…and I thought I did a decent job but I would leave that to others who witnessed my presentation skills…it was a long time since I had made a presentation and I was quite nervous but BOP brings out the best in me and this time also I scraped through…
The presentation ended with another round of loud JAI BOPs and then the real fun started…you can call it LOUD LOUD LOUD…the engines of our bullets came to life and they were revved…ear-shattering to say the least…we made symphony of sounds with our engine grunts…and people were awestruck…simply bedazzled…

Then we showed some mercy to people inside the auditorium and took our bulls outside for another sound show!!! Here Diwakar Bhaaya did a Burnout Stunt and it was amazing…The Mighty One who was parked outside lonely also came to life and started to roar like a Lion!!!

To show my angst against the event managers I started my bike and took it up through the stairs all in one flow and damaging some stairs in the process…it was seriously satisfying to go up through the stairs in a single motion and I was on a high after that…but after this spectacle the rest were stopped to repeat this act and ramps were called out frantically to bring some normalcy into the proceedings…

All this while one Rock Band was trying it’s best to perform inside but the roaring bulls had brought all the crowds outside and they were performing in front of an almost-zero crowd…we felt bad for them but this was called for by them only…while I was presenting they kept doing their sound-check…I kept requesting them to hold back for some time but they never listened to me…my rhythm was broken and I made it a point that I would screw their performance once they start and bingo…that’s what I did!!!

We left Epicentre after the grand show and some of us went to Vedant ki Dhaani for another BBB session…the fact that 5 of us were leaving for the Nahan Nunchuks Ride the next morning didn’t deter us from re-living the BBB magic!!!

This event would always be remembered for the unity we showed as a club and also the fact that almost the entire BOP was present…the loud JAI BOP chants still roar in the area around Epicentre and one can hear the roars when passing that area…and I am sure this would happen for some time to come…after all some 30-odd bikers shouting is surely loud…

The Nahan Nunchuks

The limits have changed…till last year the maximum daily riding limit for BOP was a maximum of 350 kms but this year we have re-defined the limits…we have done even 550 kms in a day…that was from Mcleodganj to Gurgaon…this ride was going to be a little different as we wanted to enjoy a relaxed ride and do at the most 300 kms in a day…so we decided on the destinations as Nahan, some 280 kms from Gurgaon and it is also the hometown of our BOP rider Tomar so we didn’t have to scout for the route maps or staying options, Tomar planned everything for us...Nahan is a quite-little place some 17 kms from the Haryana-Himachal border and nestled in the foothills of Himachal…

Not many riders signed up for this ride though which was a little sad as Nahan is so close to Delhi and we wanted to make it a big ride but still it was good fun…read on for the Nahan Nunchuks magic…

The Nahan Nunchuks were:
1. Dips on his Black 4S Electra
2. Ajit on his Blue TB
3. Manji on his Silver 5S Electra
4. Tomar on his Red 4S Electra
5. Vihans on his Orange FZ-16
6. Che on The Mighty One

Day 1(19-Sep-09) Gurgaon – Murthal – Shahpura – Kala Amb – Nahan – Dadaahu

Due to the Offisial Atyachaar Event and the beer session I slept very late and woke up 30 minutes later than the planned time and reached the Gurgaon Rendezvous point later…the second time I turned up late ever for a ride…Tomar, Ajit, Vihans & Dips had already reached and I really felt bad on making them wait…we all reached the Landfill Site on NH-1 where Manji was waiting for us, we had some really awful tea and started the ride…I was really feeling sleepy and the hangover was hitting me badly…we stopped for the breakfast-break at the Ahuja Dhaba for a sumptuous meal of Paranthas, Dahi & Tea…it was thoroughly enjoyed and we started the ride again…the plan was to stop at a Theka some 80-90 kms later but I got a call from Dips at 9:30 AM that he had a rear tyre puncture and told us to wait, all this time Tomar was with him that’s why we didn’t go back…we waited at a Dhaba for some tea and Sutta…Dips & Tomar came at 11 AM and then we made our next planned stop at a Highway Theka near Shahbad…a long BBB session followed and some chilled beer & pics later we were up & running again for the last leg towards Nahan…

The heat was really bad and when we hit the Haryana-Himachal border we had to wait at a railway crossing for some 30-40 minutes in excruciating heat and loads of dust…the wait was endless indeed…but after that the solace was some 20 kms of Hill Riding from Kala-Amb to Nahan where we reached at 2 PM and straight went to Tomar’s Home…please note Tomar would be henceforth known as Kunwar-Ji due to his mighty standing in the Nahan District…everybody knew him there and the rest of us also got extra attention due to his special stature!!! We had been invited to Kunwar Ji’s home for lunch by his mother…and boy-ohh-boy what a meal it was…gastronomical delight…she had made a special Himachali Dish for us and that tasted superb…

After the heavy(really heavy) meal we left for Dadaahu where we were to stay overnight…its some 35 kms from Nahan and is an even sleepier town…

En-route we stopped at a Waterfall which was beautiful and was very high…we could actually see the mouth of the waterfall and decided to trek towards it…I gave up midway as the uphill stairs were too much for me and I just didn’t have any strength left to reach the top and came back to the base but Kunwar Ji, Dips & Manji made it to the top and had a great time there, surely after the tough trek it was a beautiful sight…

All this while me, Vihans & Ajit kept biding away our time doing some good-hearted Bakchodi while sitting on the road…we all reached Dadaahu at 6:30 PM and were to stay at the Government Rest House where Kunwar Ji had booked 2 rooms for us…but the biggest surprise was coming our way…No Smoking & Drinking in the premises…that was a shocker for all of us and one which he had hidden from us all this while!!! We entered with a heavy heart, rested for a bit and after weighing all the options decided to go outside for a BBB session at an Ahaata – I am sure all Gurgaon people would know what an Ahaata is !!!

I decided to catch up on some sleep and joined the guys later at 9 PM…it was badly needed as I had just slept for 4 hours the last night…I reached the Ahaata where the Bakchodi Session was in full flow, we finished the drinks session and went for dinner to a quaint looking restaurant where the food was OK to say the least…didn’t enjoy it one single bit and went back to the rest-house disappointed…

All-in-all a great day…Breakfast @ Murthal (sounds like Breakfast at Tiffany’s!!!), riding in the heat, theka session, the sumptuous lunch at Kunwar Ji’s Home, the Ahaata BBB Session & the not-so-good dinner later we all called it a day and slept as some really tired-riders!!!

Day 2(20-Sep-09) Dadaahu – Renuka Ji – Jammu Koti – Dadaahu – Nahan

It was going to be a relaxed day and we all woke up gingerly amidst some bright sunlight…nothing like the misty-mountain mornings one expects in the hilly areas…it looked like a Gurgaon Morning scene to me!!! very sunny & warm…we were all ready and raring to go by 9:30 Am…the next stop was a small-little breakfast joint where Kunwar Ji once had a meal some 4-5 years back…we all followed him and reached the place…a heavenly setting indeed…nice-fragrance of fresh Chhole, a river flowing just beneath us and a very quiet place…and the food was even better…one of the best breakfasts I ever had in my life…

After the dream breakfast our next stop was the Renuka Ji Temple, Lake & the Zoo…

We decided to take our bikes inside as walking was not much of an option due to the heat…stopped first for the customary bike-lineup pics...

And then for the best sight of them all…the lion enclosure…where one lion & 3 lionesses were roaming around frantically…growling away to glory…maybe they wanted to get into some raunchy acts of their own but for the boundary…their grunts were really scary and scared the shit out of us inspite of the very high boundary…we enjoyed the classic sights and it was the first time I was up-close & personal with the King of the Jungle…a mighty sight indeed…there were also 8-9 black bears in their enclosure playing in the water pond…the next stop was the Leopard enclosure but there was no sight of the beast…we all decided to go near the room and peeped through the windows of a dark room and bingo…with our camera flash guns we could sight the leopard resting inside and looking gingerly at us…he obliged us with some close camera shots…

Kunwar Ji, Manji & Vihans then went to seek the almighty’s blessings at the Renuka Ji Temple and the rest of us found a Machaan/View Point site where we were to engage in the next BBB session…it was overlooking the lake and the lion’s roars were still audible in the background…a great place for the BBB session…

We had real great fun and then Kunwar Ji came up with an idea to enjoy some off-roading fun enroute to Jammu Koti which was some 40 kms away…we were all game for it and went ahead…and what a road it was…or should I say what a non-road it was…pure off-roading with no trace of tar, loads of stones, mud & slush…a crazy high for any rider worth his salt…halfway into that ride we realized that Ajit was nowhere to be seen and when we called him he said he was stuck with his gears not working and there was no way that he could ride uphill on that crazy road…we all were really sad as we badly wanted to reach the mountain top but had no other option than to go back…but for some good measure Dips brought out the bottle of Rum which was soon gulped away by Kunwar Ji & him…

Sadly we started the downhill ride and met Ajit where he was waiting for us…his gears were completely stuck and he was riding in the 4th gear continuously…but the tough rider he is, he never flinched even once and kept fighting on…I was leading the pack and then stopped at a Theka for another BBB Pit-Stop!!! Sadly Kunwar Ji didn’t drink any beer as he had to visit his home at Nahan; he was surely looking very frustrated & flustered…one can imagine his plight…

We reached the Nahan Rest-House and took some much-needed rest, Tomar went to his home and then came back to join us…we all went to the only Bar in Nahan – The City Heart Bar!!! One dingy place…the kinds bars must be…not the lush & posh Lounge Bars one gets to visit in Gurgaon…there were couple of local drunkards who joined us and we all engaged in some good-hearted Bakchodi…Ajit was more than interested in one of them!!! Just to mention it was the first time BOP were at a Bar…by now you know how much we engage in alcoholic fun but had not visited a bar together…this was history-in-making for us!!!

We reached the hotel at 12 and then slept away to glory after enjoying another fun-filled day…the best breakfast I had, crazy off-roading fun, 2 BBB Pit-Stops, the first BOP Bar session and the Wildlife Fiesta…the day had it all…

Day 3(21-Sep-09) Nahan – Panipat – Delhi – Gurgaon

The last day of any ride is surely the sad one but at BOP no ride days are sad days and we make sure that we enjoy each day to the fullest…this day was no different…we had another sumptuous breakfast at Kunwar Ji’s home…hot stuffed Paranthas, Raita & Sewain ki Kheer!!! We all got stuffed to the brim and were in no mood to ride after that than to just sleep our heart out!!!

We finally started at 12 PM from his home for our return ride…the heat was getting on to us and we decided to make the customary beer pit-stop…another great BBB session…we all took our chairs to a nearby Sugarcane field and had beer there with some local snacks which we bought from a roadside vendor…beer at a lounge bar is one thing but beer in the open fields is one experience which everybody must indulge in…I am sure nobody would be left disappointed after that…

The ride after this stop was filled heat, dust & crammed roads till we joined the NH-1 at Shahbad, where atleast we could zip at 80-90 kmph and also didn’t feel the heat much due to the open roads…

We kept riding on till Panipat and then stopped for a very late lunch at 6 PM at a Highway Dhaba…the Dhaba had no visitors till we entered…after seeing 6 bikes parked, soon the place was brimming of people…and then we watched a riding spectacle…1 bike came and stopped and when the pillion removed her helmet we were all shocked beyond wits…the pillion was a 60-something aunty and the rider was of the same age as well…true examples of living life in a way which is generally called rebellious by the general population…both of them were truly inspirational and proved that age is no barrier for the adventurous!!!

The Ride ended with a Beer-Stop at Gurgaon where we celebrated the end of another BOP Bike Ride…no major mishaps and no change of plans…the hot weather played a dampener but as true bikers we didn’t let it come in our way and had a blast nonetheless…the courtesy extended to us hungry bikers at Kunwar Ji’s home was a true pleasure indeed…thanks a ton to his mother who laid out the delicacies for us…
